Bronze of a Guardian Lion
Guardian lion statues have traditionally been placed in front of Chinese imperial palaces, imperial tombs, administrative buildings, temples, residences of officials and the wealthy since the Han Dynasty (206 BC – 220 AD).
Often called “Fo lions” or “Fo dogs”, this one was cast in the 19th century. Its dark patina is slightly worn and reveals in places the copper contained in the alloy.
