Oil painting “Old Quebec Carriage” by Betty Baldwin
Beautiful painting by artist Betty Baldwin (1889-1981). This painting of Old Quebec was done around 1970. The size of the canvas is 16 x 19 inches.
Born in Leeds, Yorkshire, England, she lived in Paris before settling for about fifteen years in New York and Portland, Maine. She married violinist Percy Baldwin and settled in Quebec City in 1924. Several places in Quebec City became titles of her paintings: rue des Remparts, rue de la Fabrique, Sous-le-Cap, couvent des Ursulines, etc. She held about twenty exhibitions at the foyer of the Palais Montcalm in Quebec City. Few of the artist’s works circulate on the Quebec market, but they are found quite regularly in Quebec City itself. She died on September 22, 1981.
