“Quebec Ferry” Oil by F. Iacurto
Beautiful winter scene by the St. Lawrence River painted by the artist Francesco Iacurto (1908-2001). The size of the canvas is 23.5 x 19.5 inches.
Francesco Iacurto is a Canadian painter born in Montreal (Quebec) on September 1, 1908 and died on July 7, 2001 in Quebec City.
At 15, the first and youngest student at the new École des beaux-arts de Montréal, he received a diploma as a drawing teacher in 1928 and was recognized for his landscapes and portraits. He continued his studies in Paris, from where he returned in 1929 to teach at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal.
A clear view of humans and their environment, imbued with a subtle light, gives a sense of calm and serenity to each painting, whether in the Vatican Gardens, in Charlevoix or in Old Quebec. His portraits demonstrate an exceptional sensitivity that will always charm, seduce and move.
His work is exhibited at the National Gallery of Canada, the Parliament of Quebec, the Senate of Canada, Rideau Hall and the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, where he now gives his work all the space.
